Inside Architecture was approached by Larry Caniglia, the CEO for the Northeast region’s Spa and Pool Association, with a daunting task – turn a poorly maintained, cold and dark industrial building into a prominent headquarters equipped with state of the art training space. Additionally, the space would need to be reconfigurable to host events and service the surrounding community with an educational center.
Given Inside Architecture’s expertise in facilities analysis, we immediately recognized the potential others had missed. The existing building’s considerable ceiling height gave the opportunity to create a dramatic lobby with gently curved walls. Also featured within the entrance is a wall of cascading water, a direct reference back to the pool and spa focus of the organization.
As with most construction projects, time and schedule were critical issues that could not be adjusted. NESPA’s original lease expired at the same time as their new space was slated for completion. Inside Architecture worked under an intense deadline and delivered a thorough set of construction drawings on time. The drawings required no revisions upon code review, which enabled the general contractor to begin construction on schedule. Inside Architecture further assisted in maintaining the rigid construction schedule by attending construction meetings and working closely with the general contractor to find efficient solutions to issues that arose in the field. The building’s ribbon cutting ceremony, attended by the Mayor of Hamilton and featured by the local press, celebrated the successful completion of NESPA’s beautiful and unique headquarters.
